If it is for a kid’s play area, we prioritize soft artificial turf and safe, rounded planters. If it is for morning coffee or evening unwinding, we focus on layout—maybe a small pergola for shade and a vertical garden to keep it feeling lush without crowding your limited floor space. Every square foot counts, so let us make it purposeful. A balcony makeover is not about filling a space with as many plants as possible. It is about creating a functional room outdoors. In Chennai, where we deal with intense sun and limited space, my design approach focuses on durability and low-maintenance solutions that stand the test of time. ### Designing for Small Spaces When working on small balconies, I often use a mix of vertical gardens and multi-functional flooring. Wall-mounted panels or trellis work draw the eye upward, making the space feel larger, while WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) decking provides a clean, weather-proof base that is much easier to maintain than real wood. ### Practical Choices for Your Home - **Flooring:** I recommend artificial turf for a soft, green feel, especially if you have children. It is easy to clean and stays vibrant year-round without needing water or sunlight. - **Vertical Elements:** If you want privacy from neighbors, we can install custom trellis work or UV-resistant artificial vertical garden panels. This creates a cozy, enclosed feel without blocking the breeze. - **Lighting:** Don’t ignore lighting. Even on a small balcony, adding waterproof LED strip lighting along the pebble beds or a small solar-powered pendant light changes the entire mood for evening tea. My goal is to give you a finished space that is ready to use the moment we pack up our tools. You tell me your budget, and we will find the right combination of materials—whether it is a simple, budget-friendly refresh or a more detailed renovation with custom decor. ## About Rosemary Habitat I started this because I wanted kids to have a space to run wild and adults to have a place to breathe. I don't just put down some plants; I build a corner of your home that you will actually want to spend time in. Let’s talk about what makes your balcony feel like home to you.
